Here is another photo entry.  Captions provide explanations.  Enjoy!  (Only 5 more weeks in The Middle Kingdom)

I'd hate to live there, but it looks cool

Good thing I'm not pregnant because I love pepper bovine tuberculosis

  1. Okay, consulted one of my Chinese co-workers (Zhicheng) for the skinny on the "Pepper bovine tuberculosis" menu item. Apparently is supposed to be pepper beef liver (the ones above and bellow are) but the penultimate character is misspelled, so instead of liver it became a medical term having to do with bacteria or something. Too funny. Especially with the warning bellow, which I guess could apply to liver or tuberculosis.

    Zhicheng thought it was hysterical.

    1. Paul-wow, you did your homework! This is an example of something known as "Chinglish" where the meaning got lost in translation and comes out as something completely hilarious. One of the best ones I've seen was the description on a bottle of body wash. Goes something like this: deap clean, whiten and soften, kill germs, lasting protect, remove horniness, lasting fragrant. UNREAL!
